Who ever is installing our differential in a 02A or
02J transmission please click on Installation and view the two Etka
pictures. This will show some items that must be removed before
upper casing is removed. If not removed before
upper casing could cause noise in first gear.
To our valued
customers past and future keep in mind that all our products are
made in the USA and assembled
in our shop in Georgia.
Below you will read that there has been for some time a change in
Ring Gear size as well as rivet size.
unfortunately V.W. has not come up with a sure way of distinguishing
which car has what. So we are forced to send out
only the early 02J differentials and if it turns out that the
customer has the late type then we will exchange it at an additional
cost of $70.00 plus shipping. Best way to find out which one you
have is to take the stock differential out first.
Remember we are on line with Etka so we get all the updates from
V.W. so if we find out a better way to distinguish what you
have then we will post it.
It seems as though that all Golf TDI
transaxles and GTI 1.8 turbo Gas from 2004 up uses the late differential that we make
part number 02J 498 005B. Still give Vin
number when ordering to help verify. Plus if you have had
your Transaxle replaced
by V.W. under warranty you may now have the later type Ring Gear (
113mm ) We just had to make an exchange due to this type
of issue. Plus it seems that V.W. has superseded new ring/pinions to
the later type as well.
We also ran into another problem, if you have had an after market
3.39 ratio ring/pinion installed the bolt hole center and or
degrees of the bolt holes are not the same as the V.W. OEM Ring
Gear. We tried to install one of these on a stock V.W. differential
and the bolt holes would not allow the bolts to go through.
Due to the fact that we do not install the ring gear and or the
complete
set of bolts we take NO responsibility for bolt
failures and or subsequent damages. Please have the installer refer
to the V.W. factory
Ring Gear installation procedures and check for any interference
with the bolts or Ring Gear. If need be we will fax these
procedures to the installer!
We have found that the new 2005 B5 Jetta also
uses the below changes to the ring gear and bolt size.
Our new part number for the Golf and Jetta B5 is 02J 498 005B
There is a moderate price change which is listed under 02J-B product.
Just click on the products and then 02J-B to view price.
March 28, 2006
V.W. has superseded there ring gear in the 02J 5-speed type transaxle.
As of Vehicle production date March 01 2004 the stock differential ring gear
diameter has been
reduced from 114mm to 113mm to allow for a larger rivet. Well now this means we have to make another
differential to accept the change and make another bolt kit. So far V.W.
has no such bolt kit and may not make one. The old bolt kit is
11.5mm diameter and the new would be 12.25mm.
NOTE: The Vehicle production date is found on your door jam.
Peloquins is in no way responsible for production date mistakes, the above production date is to the
best of our
knowledge correct. If more information should arise we will inform all.
It seems to date that the only car that this change affects is the Golf 4/cyl
TDI engine.
We at Peloquins
are requesting that you include a VIN number to whom you are
ordering from.
